From a $45K annual contract to a dashboard they own
- Challenge
- The network paid $45K a year for a vendor's Excel reports, one per region and school, delivered two weeks after the last school closed its survey. Reports were filtered by region and school and emailed to hundreds of leaders, who shared them with school teams. Updates were not possible after the send.
- What we built
- A script-based pipeline that imports each survey export, strips student identifiers, and loads a long table in PostgreSQL with frozen reporting tables refreshed on every import. Schools and grades are fuzzy-matched from filenames; multi-select demographics are categorized; open-ended comments are scrubbed. On top of it, a permissioned dashboard with tables (CSV/XLSX), charts (PDF), and comments, all governed by the same filters: domain, construct, demographics, and comparison groups the school chooses, from its own history to comparable schools. Hover any item for the full question and scoring key. Access by email domain, with region and school permissions attached automatically.
- Result
- The $45K line item is gone. Reports that took two weeks now update the moment a file lands, and the network runs the whole thing in-house.
